Obituary

Christina “Crissy” Lynn Hurd Johnson, Salina, went to sleep in Jesus, Thursday, May 9, 2019, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City surrounded by her family and friends. Crissy fought so hard after many complications following a very common surgery. We continued to see Jesus perform miracle after miracle, but her organs suffered irreversible damage.
Crissy was born in Springfield, Mo on July 3, 1973. She attended and graduated at Enterprise Academy in 1992 and then in 1996 from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s in Public Relations. She was the Property Manager at Prime Property in Salina Kansas for over 10 years with her dear friend and companion, Monty Gilliam. She is survived by her son, Christopher Thomas Johnson, Salina; her fur-babies, Whisper, Newman and Daisy, mother, Sharon (the late Jeff) Petersen, Abilene; father, John (Linnie) Hurd, Grundy, Va, sisters Angela (Virgil) Adams, Enterprise, Jennifer (Cory) Reitz, Abilene, Heather Vaughn-Ruiz, Salina, Carrie (Rick) Kill, Howard, brother Matthew (Shelby) Petersen, Fredonia, best friend, Mary Johnson (daughter Ella), Salina and many nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children. Meghan and Brandon Adams, Courtney (Stephen), Grant (Jacy), Baillee and Hanna Flora, Maribela, Eliana, Ariela, Madison, McKenzie, Callie, Colby, Riley and Samuel. Great nieces and nephews Micah (angel-face), Izaac, Stevie and baby boy Flora. She was loved by so many aunts, cousins, church family and friends.
She is proceeded in death by her stepfather, Jeff Petersen, stepsister, Stefanie Welch, grandparents, Tom and Myrtle Hopper and her beloved dog Harry.
Crissy had the most amazing smile and sense of humor, never had an enemy and touched so many lives. She dedicated her whole life to her son who made her such a proud mom. She often said her son was her joy. Together they shared a love for all things Star Trek. She loved nature (except for bugs) hiking, food, traveling, watching her son’s choir performances at Bethany College and just hanging out with her family. She never missed a birthday, graduation or wedding. Crissy held on to her dream of one day marrying Tom Selleck.
Her family welcomes all friends and family to attend her service at the Enterprise Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 601 South Bridge Street, Enterprise, Kansas, Friday, May 17th at 2:00 pm.
Crissy’s final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Memorials will go to furthering Christopher’s education fund. He was accepted into the Engineering Program at Wichita State University. Crissy was beyond proud of his academic accomplishments. Contributions may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

As a previous pastor of the Salina and Enterprise Seventh-day Adventist churches, my wife Geanina and I had the privilege of getting acquainted with Christina and her son Chris, who attended the church school in Salina with our son Joshua and daughter Stephanie. When our family went through a difficult time, we appreciated her kindness and concern. Her caring spirit and her warm smile will always remain in our memories. Deeply saddened by her death and by Chris' loss of his precious mother, we're hopeful that he (and we) will see her again when Jesus returns. What an amazing day that will be!

Chris, we hear that you might be attending school in Wichita. If so, we would gladly welcome you into our home whenever you are able to get away from your studies. Our address is 2115 E Fairchild Street and my phone number is (785) 342-4262. Stephanie comes by frequently and Joshua now and then, so you might just cross paths. Until then, we will be praying for God to carry you through this difficult time!
