Ed Anderson Obituary

Prominent Hope business man, Edward (Ed) D. Anderson, passed away on February 2, 2018 at the age of 82 .
Ed was born at his family home south of Hope Sept. 15,1935, to Harold and Sarah Helena (Whipple) Anderson.
He attended the Hope School K-12, graduating in 1953. He was baptized & a member of the Hope First Christian Church until it closed. Also attended the Rosebank BIC church, south of Hope 1972- 2006, then attended the Rock Island Church, Herington 2006-2017.
He owned a service station (Anderson Oil Co.) at the corner of hwy 4 & 43 until he stopped selling gas 1959-1989, then moved his business opening an auto repair-tire shop in town on 214 N. Main St. until he permanently closed his shop Dec. 2017.
He enjoyed flying and owned a 4 seat Cessna, 1970-75.
In 1989 after serving the Hope Police Dept. as a deputy for many yrs., he became the Hope Police Chief after graduation from the KU Law Enforcement Academy until retiring in 1997.
He also drove a school bus for the Rural Vista USD 481 in Hope for 49 years.
Edward married Helen I. Estes on May 26, 1962, and made their home in Hope, celebrating 56 yrs. together.
Survivors: wife, Helen of the home; son, Michael S. Anderson of Hope and daughter, Sara N. Buck (Patrick) and 3 grandson’s Trevor, Tadan, and Tanner Buck of Rochester Hills, MI.; a sister Jean Ecklund, of Burdick, Kansas; sister-in-law Evelyn (Stroda) Anderson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents; two brothers Bill & Glen and 4 sisters Marie Stewart, Lucille Lake, Elva Sandow, and Mary Burch.
Ed’s family will receive friends on Thursday, February 8th from 6:00 p.m. to7:00 p.m. at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Hope.
Services for Ed will be Friday, February 9th 2:00 p.m. at the Rock Island Church, 1010 W. Walnut St. in Herington
